All That Matters – Minister GUC (Song Of The Day)
In 2021, just like in every year that preceded it, a lot of things will be competing and demanding for your attention, but you get to decide all that matters to you. I have decided that Christ is number one for me. He comes before everything else.
Funny Identity – Oliver De Coque (Song Of The Day)
The recent Stingy Men Association wave that swept through Nigerian social media also swept in a couple of songs that buttressed their points. Funny Identity was one of such.
Constantly Abiding (From My Heart)
Constantly abiding in God's word, in His grace, in His will, brings peace into our life that is incomparable. A peace you can't find elsewhere, that the world did not give, and it cannot take away.
Bleeding Love – Leona Lewis (Song Of The Day)
After experiencing multiple heartbreaks, there is a tendency to seal up your heart to love, ensuring you never get hurt again. But what happens when the "right one" comes along? Can they cut through the barriers and get you bleeding love?
Queen Kong – Pryse × Eva Alordiah (Song Of The Day)
When Vector released King Kong in late 2014, many remixes and covers were released. The best of the bunch for me was Queen Kong by Pryse and Eva Alordiah.
Smile – Mo Eazy (Song Of The Day)
This was the song that introduced me to Mo Eazy. He is an awesome rapper, on par with any rapper in Nigeria or across the seas. I'll dare anyone to listen to the song and say otherwise. (Those who just had their hearts shattered are excused though.)
ShukuBamBam – Phenom × Ms Iye (Song Of The Day)
On ShukuBamBam, Phenom starts out strong. Characterizing himself to the fictional King Kong. No one is stronger. Very few can match his appetite for havoc and domination. And that is an apt description of Phenom's rap prowess.
Ebe – Sola Allyson (Song Of The Day)
Ebe by Sola Allyson is a song of prayer. A psalm of prayer that I believe we all need to render to God before we proceed with this year.
Ginger – Wizkid × Burna Boy (Song Of The Day)
Ginger is inarguably the best song on Wizkid's Made In Lagos album. Thankfully, Wizkid and Burna Boy were generous enough to bless this song with a video.
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus (From My Heart)
There is a hack to life that can only be gotten when you turn your eyes upon Jesus. When you shut out the world and look to Him. Absolutely Trusting, absolutely dependent, absolutely invested, and totally given over to Him.
Billionaire – Teni (Song Of The Day)
Other than the fact that the opening line is more suicidal than wishful thinking, Billionaire by Teni is one of the best songs to come out of Nigeria in the last decade.
Koroba – Tiwa Savage (Song Of The Day)
Koroba by Tiwa Savage is the best musical depiction of the concave, convoluted and warped mindset of most Nigerians. At its release, there was a lot of postulation that the song was an open lauding, endorsement, and encouragement of prostitution.
Triumphant – Olamide × Bella Shmurda (Song Of The Day)
I first heard Triumphant on Olamide's album, Carpe Diem. For now, I must state, Olamide is awesome at making albums. He has singles that may not be up to his usual standard, but when it comes to albums, He is top-tier only.
Wetin We Gain – Victor AD (Song Of The Day)
Today, a lot of people are resuming work for the year. I believe Wetin We Gain by Victor AD is a great song to get back into work mode. And when I wish you a happy financial new year, you would do well to wish me the same.
Grace – Michael W. Smith (Song Of The Day)
All I want is to live in grace. For my life to be an expression of the extravagance, that is when God chooses one to be a manifestation of His wonders.
And Can It Be, That I Should Gain? (From My Heart)
I have never thought myself to be a culprit in Christ's death. I know I made a gain from his death and resurrection, but I never wondered what role I played in his death.
Ayo – Simi (Song Of The Day)
There are over a thousand and one songs that one could start the year 2021 with, but in my opinion, Ayo by Simi is the best out there.
Same Space – Tiana Major9 (Song Of The Day)
How best do you describe that feeling when the love is past its sell-by date? That is exactly what Tiana Major9 does on same space.
Who You Epp – Olamide × Wande Coal × Phyno (Song Of The Day)
At this point, it must be acknowledged that Olamide is great at making hits and albums. "Who You Epp" is not an exception.
I Hate – Passenger (Song Of The Day)
There are things each of us dislikes or hate but tend to keep to ourselves. Unlike Passenger, many of us do not get to unload them as fashionably as he did in I Hate.
Left For Good – Waje × Patoranking (Song Of The Day)
Left for good by Waje and Patoranking is a song about moving on after breaking up from a selfish lover. It tells the story of recovering ones' glow after healing from heartbreak.
Warn Yourself – Omawumi (Song Of The Day)
As much as warn yourself is Omawumi talking to the guy not to take his shot at her cause he can't handle her and all of her goodies, you also need to warn yourself so you never settle for less than you deserve.
Born Sinner – J. Cole × James Fauntleroy
For lots of people, "I'm a born sinner", "no one is born a saint", "he who is without sin should cast the first stone", "no one is perfect" has been their crutch to wallowing in imperfection, Immortality, and costly vices.
Fem – Davido (Song Of The Day)
When I first got informed that Davido's newest release was titled Fem, I didn't expect it to be this much of a stirring of the hornet's nest. Davido used this as an opportunity to go after the latest set of people who have got grievances, real or perceived, with him.
If I Start To Talk – Tiwa Savage × Dr Sid (Song Of The Day)
As we round off 2020, I know you have a thousand and one prayer requests, but counting your blessings and thanking God for them could be the key to unlocking the next phase of your life. As you Soro Soke, remember to keep counting your blessings.
GT Da Guitarman – Dreamer (Song Of The Day)
The land is green with opportunities; the dreamers are ready; can the government, if they won't aid them kindly get out of their way? As a big dreamer, I hope my dreams come true. I hope yours also come true.
Mr President – African China (Song Of The Day)
When in 2006, African China released the song Mr President, the perspective then was that Nigeria was so bad, it would take a "miracle" to get any worse.
Seven Years – Lukas Graham (Song Of The Day)
Seven years by the band Lukas Graham is a song filled with life lessons. It is a song that gives me an understanding of another man and his cultural view on life.
Ilu – Asa (Song Of The Day)
Ilu by Asa is a song I love but wish never existed. It is a piece of artistic brilliance, beautifully composed, yet reflecting the state of a highly deplored nation.
If I Get Money Eh – Magnito (Song Of The Day)
Funny thing is I know people who live their lives daily, talking about if I get money eh, before listing out an endless stream of things they intend to do immediately they have money. Interestingly, they have no plan in place on how to make said money.
Blinded By Your Grace – Stormzy (Song Of The Day)
When a self-confessed gangster sings about how he was Blinded By Your Grace, you have to believe that His Grace is beyond description.
Face 2 Face – 2 Face Idibia (Review)
When you see your favorite artists "fanboy" 2 Baba, know that the "Baba" at the end of his name is not decorative. Like a Four-Star general, he earned all four letters of it.
Is Anybody Out There? – K’Naan × Nelly Furtado (Song Of The Day)
Is anybody out there? Is anyone listening? Can you hear my cry for help? Will you reach out a hand and pull me out of this quicksand I find myself in?
Stand By Me – Boys Don’t Sing (Live Performance)
There are very few experiences more beautiful in this world than a great choir performing a song worthy of a once in a lifetime performance. That is exactly what you get to experience with the Boys Don’t Sing Choir’s rendition […]
Rise Up – Andra Day (Song Of The Day)
At this point, the year 2020 needs a song to calm it down and for me, Rise Up by Andra Day is the song for it.
Resonance – Vique (Cover)
Resonance by Chinwe Ike is a timeless musical piece. I can’t remember exactly when I first heard it, but I do know that I fell in love with it right away and that love never waned.
Be Careful – Cardi B (Song Of The Day)
Be careful before you make those who love you start to despise you. That is Cardi B’s warning on Be Careful.
Adura Elijah – Jhybo (Song Of The Day)
In Adura Elijah, Jhybo calls on Jehovah to save him from enemies near and far, known and unknown, and most dangerous of all, frenemies.
Pete Pete – 9ice × Asa (Song Of The Day)
Pete Pete is exactly what I imagined a 9ice and Asa collaboration to sound like. And no. They did not disappoint.
I Am Not Afraid – Majek Fashek (Song Of The Day)
Majek Fashek was not scared to use his voice. Even when he was plagued by lots of personal demons, he still continued to give music his best. He continued to bless the world with melodious tunes that helped people with their personal battles.
High – Eva Alordiah (Song Of The Day)
Some people get addicted to what was supposed to be a temporal source of release and pleasure. We find our "high" and want to remain there. This has led to misuse, abuse, and dependence on drugs, alcohol, sex, relationship, porn, game, gambling, and others.
God Is Love & The Light – Common × Erykah Badu × William Murphy (Song Of The Day)
Common, Erykah Badu and William Murphy do a great job of reminding us to never lose sight of God's Love and God's Light. It is up to you to be a representation and manifestation of this.
Good Thing – Asa (Song Of The Day)
On Good Thing, the song in itself talks about refusing to be treated sub-humanly because of your flaws and insecurities. It encourages you to take charge of your life and demand the respect you deserve.
Starting Over – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis × Ben Birdwell (Song Of The Day)
Addiction is a battle a lot of people are fighting. Getting clean is celebrated by many. Relapsing is often a setback that breaks many. Starting over. That is one step that many are unable to take.
Frenemies – 2Baba × Waje (SONG Of The Day)
Frenemies. We've all got them. Wish we didn't. Hope we don't. Pray to loose them, but we've got them still.
Jombo – Kiss Daniel (Song Of The Day)
Remember if you start seeing any sign that her father or mother is coming for you, do take to your heels. People may laugh at you, but your head won't be in bandages at the end of the night.
Not For Sale – 2Baba, MI, Teni, Chidinma, Waje, UmarMSheriff And Cobhams (Song Of The Day)
There is something about Lagos houses and "Not For Sale". It just goes hand in hand. I wish the same can be said about the forthcoming General Election in Nigeria.
No Shishi 4 Bribe – 2Baba, Falz, Simi, Waje, Timi Dakolo and More (Song Of The Day)
I wish every Nigerian going into this election can go with the mindset of No Shishi 4 Bribe. And stand by the decision.
Only You Jesus – Ada Ehi (Song Of The Day)
In the song "Only You Jesus" by Ada Ehi, she recognizes the finite ability of man and the infinite ability of God. This is something that a lot of us have come to overlook in our daily lives.
Case – Teni (Song Of The Day)
If you have to slap a police officer, go to war, go to court, climb the bridge, enter water, punch a judge or slap an agbero for a guy, you really need to start with rethinking your life choices.Join the #MARDGang
