An optimist is someone who expects positive outcomes. He is a person that believes things will always turn out in his favor, she is someone that believes the world is set up to always yield favorable results in issues related to her.
Optimism is defined as a tendency to expect the best, or at least, a favorable outcome.
In a world with ceaseless gloom, dissatisfaction, unhappiness and limitations, it is easy to be a pessimist, we even see little children who find it difficult to see the lighter and happier side of things. Parents are weighing down their children with unrealistic expectations, pushing them to set irrelevant and non-age appropriate targets, stealing away their childhood.
We see youths so focused on the outcome and are uninterested in the process, sacrificing long term wellbeing for momentary satisfaction, some even live a life of “live for today, we don’t know if tomorrow will ever come”. Adults are getting so bogged down with their finances and losing their families. Sacrificing the proper upbringing of their children on the altar of career progression.
Yes, the economy is messed up and we all need multiple streams of income, but that shouldn’t lead to abandoning all the other aspects of our lives. We see even wealthy folks battling depression while poorer people believe having more money will fix their depression.
Optimism is a state of mind, being an optimist is a choice. Events in life are sometimes unavoidable, but our reaction is usually our choice. Even when things seem bleak, that is when your faith needs to be at its peak.
As a Christian, you believe in an Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent God. He is ever-present, all-knowing and all-powerful; even more importantly, He has your best interest at heart. You are the apple of His eyes. He can summon a host of angels to take up any matter of your choice. He commanded you to ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.
For me, that is more than sufficient reason to be a Believing Optimist.
